What is it?

The indefinite article is the word a or an.

When do we use it?

• When we start talking about something for the first time. We usually assume the people we are talking to do not know about the thing we are talking about.
• we bought a house in the country.
• She's got a new car.

• To talk about any thing of a particular type, rather than a specific item:-
  • would you like a banana milkshake?

• she's a doctor.
• he wants to be an architect when he leaves school.
